Think Organic Every Time

When most people think about organic products, they think about organic food. And this trend is evident even in supermarkets. So much so that you can’t fail to notice high-quality organic foods and products taking an ever-increasing space on the shelves. In fact, according to Woolworths, sales of organic fruit and veg is rising at 20 per cent per year. So, what about other parts of our organic lifestyle where buying organic is important? What about organic clothes?

Organic Cotton as part of your Organic Lifestyle

Before we delve into the myriad of advantages of organic cotton clothes, firstly, let’s consider the largest human organ, our skin. Now, one of the main functions of the skin is protection. But it’s not perfect. For example, it can be considered a porous membrane so things can go out and in. So, if you expose your skin to toxins, then a proportion of them can be absorbed. It’s no coincidence that around 70% of babies have skin conditions. Also, 85% of 12 to 24-year-olds have more than one skin issue! In short, besides environmental exposure, our closest source of toxins is ordinary, mass-produced clothing.

Why Buy Organic Cotton Clothes?

It’s pretty clear that ordinary cotton crops are drenched in chemicals. Really. So, although cotton makes up only about 3% of total farmed land, to grow it uses an incredible 25% of insecticides and 10% of pesticides worldwide. Furthermore, the production process of ordinary cotton garments requires a whole smorgasbord of toxic chemicals and additives. On the other hand, organic cotton farming and production use none of these chemicals. Plus, organic cotton requires 80% less water! Fortunately, many people across the world are realising the benefits of an organic lifestyle and organic cotton for themselves, their children and the environment. In fact, organic cotton’s use is growing by 10% year on year.

Come on, put some skin in the game! Commit to an organic lifestyle!
