There’s little argument that caring for a newborn baby is both the most wonderful and the most daunting experience a mother can have. Furthermore, if this little bundle is your first baby then everything is new. The learning curve is steep and there are lots of decisions to be made. Fortunately, you are not alone, and we’re here to help. So, depending on what activities you’re planning with baby will dictate how you dress them to keep them warm and cosy. Let’s have a look at 3 common scenarios for dressing newborn babies.
Dressing newborn baby for winter indoors
As a general rule, dress baby in one more layer than you would wear as an adult. So, if you feel comfortable in a jumper and tee-shirt, baby should be wearing, say, a vest, onesie and a jumpsuit. Two layers for you, three for baby. Just be aware that when dressing newborn babies, don’t let them get too hot. The best way to check is to feel their tummy. This will be closer to their core temperature and a good indicator.
Flexible Dressing for a car journey
Obviously, we can control the temperature of a car pretty well. The problem is the initial temperature will be low and rise rapidly. The trick here is to use layers of organic cotton clothes. Organic cotton is warm, cosy and, importantly, breathable. Easily add an initial layer before the car warms up by tucking a cotton blanket around baby.
Dressing newborn baby for a walk in the winter sun
It’s essential that even if it’s cold outside, you take a stroll with the baby in the pram. Fresh air, sunshine and a bit of exercise benefits everyone. Just follow the rule of one more layer for baby, and everything will be fine. Also, buy some organic woollens such as hats and gloves to keep their extremities cosy.
